Pectin 360 Awarded $2.1m CRC-P Grant to Advance Onshoring of Pectin & Fibre Production in Australia

Pectin 360 is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $2.1m Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-P) Round 17 grant from the Australian Government to support the development of Australia’s first onshore pectin and fibre production capability. Further details on the grant can be found here.

Pectin is an essential ingredient used in a wide range of food and nutraceutical products, yet Australia is currently 100% reliant on imported supply. Through this grant, Pectin 360 will build a pilot-scale plant to validate its zero-waste manufacturing process, converting fruit waste into high-quality pectin and fibre. This project will advance food security, reduce reliance on imports, and create sustainable opportunities for growers and manufacturers in regional Australia.

Pectin 360’s project partners include Doehler Australia Pty Ltd, Ahurei Pty Ltd, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Frunutta Asia Pacific Pty Ltd and Scimita Operations Pty Ltd.

“The award of this CRC-P grant is testament to the quality of the partners we have assembled and our business alignment with the Government’s objectives around sustainability, sovereign manufacturing, industry resilience and circular economy outcomes.

This funding will allow Pectin 360 to accelerate commercialisation activities and materially de-risk the business case. Together with our partners, we aim to create a cost-competitive, domestic alternative to imported pectin and fibre,” said Martin Kaderavek, Co-Founder and CEO of Pectin 360.

“Scimita Group is thrilled to continue our collaboration with Pectin 360. Our dedicated pilot plant and innovation facility is an ideal location to build and operate Pectin 360’s pilot plant to produce pectin and fibre that will be validated through customer food trials and prove the advanced manufacturing process for scaling up to a commercial facility” said Dr. Mobin Nomvar, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Scimita Group.

“RMIT University, a key partner in this initiative, brings world-leading expertise in food research and development – spearheading innovations in feedstock characterisation, digital twinning and process optimisation, and end product analysis” added RMIT’s Major Research Initiatives group.

This project received grant funding from the Australian Government’s CRC-P Program.
