Who We Are

Pectin 360 is pioneering the onshoring of production of high-quality, zero-waste, low-energy consumption, sustainable pectin and fibre in Australia. By upcycling fresh fruit waste, Pectin 360 is creating valuable ingredients for food, beverage and nutraceutical industries, whilst eliminating waste, strengthening domestic production capability and supporting a circular economy.

The Pilot Plant Project

With investment from the Australian Government’s Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-P) grant ($2.1m), Pectin 360 is establishing a state-of-the-art pilot plant to demonstrate our advanced, energy-efficient manufacturing process.

This innovative facility will:

  • Convert citrus and apple waste into premium pectin, fibre and other valuable by-product ingredients

  • Use significantly less energy compared to traditional pectin production processes

  • Showcase a zero-waste model where every part of the fruit is utilised to produce multiple products and revenue streams

This pilot plant is the first step toward full-scale, commercial production that will re-establish sovereign manufacturing of pectin in Australia for the first time in over 40 years.

Pilot plant outcomes will enable customer validation of pectin and fibre products, at the same time proving the pilot plant process and commercialisation pathway.

Collaboration is at the heart of this project. Pectin 360 is working with industry, research, innovation and government partners:

  • Working with deep commercialisation company Scimita Group and one of Australia’s leading universities, RMIT

  • Other industry partners include well-known Australian brands, global distributors and fruit waste suppliers

  • Deliver world-leading, energy-assisted processing technology

  • Build sustainable supply chains that benefit growers, processors and food manufacturers

  • Strengthen Australia’s capability in advanced food ingredient production

  • Selected as part of the Australian-Grown Innovation Build Program, backed by Hort Frontiers and delivered by Startupbootcamp, as recognition of the business model and potential impact

Our Long-Term Vision

Our vision is to scale the technology / process to serve domestic and export markets, positioning Australia as a trusted source of premium, sustainable ingredients.

By building local manufacturing capability, Pectin 360 will:

  • Reduce import dependency and provide supply security

  • Support regional development through local jobs and supply chain opportunities

  • Open export opportunities for sustainable, traceable “Product of Australia” pectin and fibre in global markets

  • Continued innovation through the commercialisation of other fruit waste by-products, including polyphenols and orange oil
